Screenplay

Screenplay

A screenplay is probably one of the most important things when it comes to film production. This is because a screenplay shows the director everything which goes on in the screen. It creates the characters and the plot, without the screenplay there would be no movie.

When creating a screenplay there is a few things that you need to keep in mind, the first one being that a minute of screen time is approximately one page on a screenplay. This allows you to keep the time of the movie as intended, and not make a scene last too long of too short. It also must contain dialogue, and sometimes how this is said. However, a screenplay doesn't have to be exactly how the final thing will look, as sometimes people improvise and the director has the power to change things.

Things to include in a screenplay:
-Location
-Setting
-Time of day
-Key characters
-Description of characters
-Action
-Dialogue
-Camera angles
-Transitions

To see what a screenplay was and compare it to the actual film I decided to look at the opening screenplay to the fast and the furious. The link to the screenplay is here:

And the link to the opening scene is here:

The screenplay at the opening is very similar to the opening of the film but there are some small changes. This is because this is a first draft so it is different to the final film.

After doing some research on other screenplays I decided that it was time to start writing my own for the opening of our thriller.
I currently knew what had to be included in the screenplay and I knew that it didn't have to be the same as the final production but I still wasn't sure how to write my own. So after looking online I realised that a well written screenplay consists of six different parts, and if these are all used correctly then the screenplay should include everything you need when it comes to production.
Action - This is where you say what happens in short detail.
Character - Who does the action/dialogue
Dialog - What is said
Parenthetical - Any action which is done during speech
Slug - Scene heading, location and time
Transition - How it changes to the next scene

This is my first screenplay draft:
