Preliminary Task 1

For our first preliminary piece of work for media we worked in groups of three to take photos of different camera angles. We had to take photos of different camera shots. All the camera shots we have learnt so far are below with a description and then our examples are below those.

Close up
-Small Area of focus
-Used to show importance or emotion
-Also an extreme close up e.g. an eye

Establishing shot
-Opening shot or sequence
-Used to set the scene

Low angle shot
-Shot from low down
-Used to show them as intimidating or powerful

High angle shot
-Shot from above
-Used to show vulnerability

Long shot
-Camera view taken from a distance
-Used to show they are dominated by their surroundings

Shot/Reverse shot
-Shows one face then another
-Used to show a conversation

Tilt shot / Canted angle
-Tilted camera angle
-Used to show speed/movement
-Used to show an unsettled mood

Mid shot
-Subject from the middle up
-Allows you to see the character’s outfit and surroundings

Over the shoulder shot
-Taken from over a shoulder
-makes the character who’s shoulder we see seem more powerful

Two shot
-Includes two characters
-Shows a conversation
-Doesn’t focus on one character making them seem equal
